[Healeys] HS-4 insulating blocks / distance pieces

Bob,

On my tri-carb with the asbestos sheets both side I have only one distance
piece on each carburettor.

It is mounted on the outside of the heat shield with a fibre gasket each
side of it.

Subject: [Healeys] HS-4 insulating blocks / distance pieces

Listers,

I'd like to confirm the number of insulating blocks / distance pieces

(AEC2126) fitted around the tri-carb heat shield, after engine 29E-928.

In the 2018 version of the Concours Guidelines, on the bottom of page

35, it states: "Heat shields for the 29E engine; early cars have an

inner asbestos shield attached in the same manner as the 29D. Later cars

after 29E-H928 had an inner and outer asbestos shield requiring

carburetor spacers. There is a thick spacer on each side of the heat

shield: one next to the manifold and another between the heat shield and

carburetter."

The service parts list (AKD1151 5th ed.) shows that the heat shield part

number did change at engine 29E-929. It also shows the addition of the

distance pieces at the same point. But the quantity is only three; not six.

If there weren't any distance pieces used on the early 29E engine, then

I could see where a distance piece between the heat shield and the

carburetter would be required to space the carb out the same amount as

the outer asbestos shield. Don't know why the distance pieces would

also be needed between the intake manifold and the heat shield. Unless

there was another issue being addressed?

Have also sent an email to Roger Moment.

Cheers,
