Another way is to have the engine inverted then lift the crank a little one
end at a time. With two around this is easier. To start the caps moving
just a careful tap upwards with a hammer whilst the second person is
continuing a lifting action. Once the crank starts to move; lifting each
end in turn will raise the caps until they can be removed by hand.
