[Healeys] source for 6 volt batterys

If you hook up two 12 V batteries, this would not harm the electrical
system. It only is kind of overkill - like putting a battery from a big
truck in a tiny car. You have more amps available than you can use and of
course more weight than necessary. But the standard dynamo probably will not
be able to charge these bigger batteries as it only delivers 22 amps.

The 100 needs 50 amp.hr. at 10 hour rate. And it got two 6 V batteries
(inline, so together 12 V) that can be mounted easier in the small space
behind the seats. If you find a small 12 V battery that fits in there this
might be another solution.

Gel batteries are fantastic for their purpose which is to deliver current at
low rates for a longer period. In a car the type of current you need most is
short and high power for starting. Here the classic acid battery has its
advantages and it can be recharged faster than a gel battery. And the gel
battery needs a special charging device. The dynamo in our cars is built for
charging acid batteries and would destroy a gel battery.

Another solution might be an AGM battery (Absorbent Glass Matt) which is the
newest development in acid batteries, where the glass matt completely binds
the acid. These batteries are put together under pressure and therefore
won't loose acid even if you mount it upside down. You only have to search
an AGM that is built for starting (and not for long term delivery of
current). And you can charge them with all classic chargers. Biggest
disadvantage is the price.

For the needs in our cars the classic acid battery should be the best
choice.
