Hello
If it wasn’t for cars like the Austin A40 Sports there wouldn’t be an Austin-Healey in the numbers that were eventually made.
The A40 Sports were made by Jensen Motors with an all alloy body under contract to Austin in the pre-BMC period. Released in late 1950 the A40 Sports was not marketed as a sports car, but as a touring car.
Without the contacts made through the A40 Sports, Jenson Motors would not have been given the contract to build the new Austin-Healey 100.
The A40 Sports was and is quite a spirited performer and I would be very pleased to have one in my garage as they formed a very important part of the late 1940s and 1950s British automotive history.
Don’t bag what you don’t know.
