[Healeys] Access to drive shaft IJs.

Just below the front U-joint the frame structure makes a sharp V. Although
it might be possible to remove the U-joint bolts from below (one at a time,
if you can turn the driveshaft), the V restricts access. It would be much
less tedious to do it from above after removing the tunnel. The front
U-joint bolts are locked with bent-over locking plates. You have to
straighten the bent tabs to unscrew the bolts and nuts. The rear U-joints
are more easily accessed. The driveshaft can be pulled out towards the
rear. It's in two pieces with a sliding spline joint between them. There
are arrows on each piece for alignment. Make sure you keep this alignment
for balance reasons when you put it back together.

Hi,

Another question.

The manual tells one to remove the transmission tunnel in order to access
the UJs.

Can one do the job from underneath?

I've never done UJs before so I'll probably be appealing for help...

I have, I think, managed to source some decent ones. The price disparity on
what's available is remarkable??

Simon
