Something you might try is offsetting the latch catch and leaving the amount where it’s at.

I was measuring inside the trunk from the metal around where the bumper bracket extension goes through the body. That would make the center of the latch a 1 1/2 inch offset to the right of the car facing from the rear. I have body number 598, an aluminum boot lid that works really well and with my new handle, I can now even lock my boot!

Measuring from the right bumper extension to the edge of the latch bracket gives 13-3/4". the latch bracket is 2-1/4" wide. Assuming that my car isn't too badly out of shape it looks as if the bracket is offset about 3/4" to the right. Maybe you can get your body man to correct it gratis since it's his mistake.

The trunk lid lock does not line up with the striker in the trunk, so I can not lock the trunk. I suspect during the restoration when the new hoop and bracket were welded in, the body man simply welded the bracket in the center. I suspect it should be off center to the right a bit looking from behind the car for proper alignment. The trunk lock is a fixed location with no adjustment. The striker does adjust left and right some, but not enough to line up correctly. I am not looking forward to removing the bracket and re-welding it since it has been painted already.
