Jean's comments are absolutely "on the money".
A small inaccuracy that may seem insignificant to the manufacturer can
cause enormous grief.
If you are buying through a reseller communication through them to the
manufacturer can be a nightmare (all due respects David).
There is a term in business "value add" and applying it will serve you well.
If someone other than the producer handles what you are buying the only
reason to use them is if they add value. such value can be improved pricing
through volume purchasing, improved convenience or a host of other things
but unless the reseller adds value you are always better off to move up the
supply chain.
