Wood is a terrible material for a heat sink. It is a much better insulator. If it actually solved some problem,(I doubt it), it is probably because it insulated the fuel line from absorbing more heat rather than removing heat from the line. So, insulating the fuel line in the engine bay would be much better approach than a few cloths pins.

I used wooden clothes pins as heat sinks back in the day on my 65 Oldsmobile

Alan -

I have both cars. That's basically the only difference. The A90 also uses a mechanical pump which is on the left front of the block, generally works pretty well except it is susceptible to vapor lock being below the manifolds, so the truck from old A90 guys is to wire a piece of wood to the fuel line that acts as a heat sink and then no more vapor lock!

Cheers,

Alan

Team.
I have both an AH100 and an A90 engine sat side by side on my garage floor. It is known that the AH100 was developed to take advantage of the A90 Atlantic mechanicals and therefore I assumed that the A90 and AH100 engines were essentially the same.
When externally comparing these two engines there is a minor difference between them that surprises me. The AH100 distributor mounting base on the block has bolt holes tapped into bosses each side of the distributor hole. The A90 has a single boss and a single tapped hole.
This indicates to me that the AH100 engine had its own block casting at the very least, and perhaps other variations too.
Could someone advise if there any other significant differences between the AH100 and A90 engines?
Many thanks.
