Don't be. I was afraid to tear into mine, but with encouragement from a
couple of pros I gave it a whirl and, so far so good. There are lots of
good videos on how to disassemble and assemble these, including here:

When all was said and done, I felt more comfortable rebuilding the OD
than the gearbox, but got both done successfully. Since yours is now a
spare, you can take your time.
