[Healeys] Windscreen washer issue

Happy New Year all

My windscreen washer pump packed up, so I got a new one. However, I cannot
get the system to work and wonder if I am missing something.

It's a bit difficult to describe, but here goes ...

When all is plumbed in ... washer bottle -> non-return valve -> tube ->
supply input on pump -> jet output on pump -> tube -> jets ... the system
doesn't seem to retain water pressure.

The non-return valve seems to be working in keeping the water in the tube
from the washer bottle to the pump, but the water in the tube between the
pump and the jets returns back up to the pump when the pump plunger
returns. (It works if I block up the jet end of the tube when the pump
plunger returns, but there's no non-return valve in that part of the
system?)

Any ideas?

Thanks
