[Healeys] Fwd: Interesting comment from a dealer

Steve,

Most if not all of these registries are listed in the Austin-Healey Club USA Resource Book as well.

Some of the ones listed in Healey Marque are listed as AHCA registries and not everyone belong or want to belong to the AHCA and therein lies one problem in my opinion. All of these registries should be totally independent of any Clubs much like the Worldwide 100M Registry. I agree that they should be supported by all Austin-Healey Clubs worldwide but independent of any of them.

I have a 100-6 BN6 and it has been registered with the 100-6 Registry for years but I never hear anything about that Registry.

The only one I ever hear anything about is the BJ8 one, the one you run, the Worldwide 100M and I used to hear about the 100 Registry when it was run jointly by Rich Chrysler and John ??? from the UK but had not heard about it until Randy posted a message a couple days ago.

All of the registries and contact information for the registrars are listed in Healey Marque. Of course, not everyone is a member of AHCA and receives the magazine. As for the BJ8 Registry, I try as much as possible to publicize the registry in as many ways as possible, including participating on this list and on the British Car Forum, having links to the BJ8 Registry hosted on several Healey-related websites, etc. I think a lot of owners have little idea what a registry is and does -- or they think they do and they are wrong; and even if they are aware of them they don't make the effort to contact the registrar to find out what the registry can do for them.

I gave a presentation about the BJ8 Registry at Enclave last summer, but that was sort of preaching to the choir. It was the people who didn't attend that needed to hear the message.

BUT, if they have no idea that the registries exist - newbies to the marque, for example -- then we are back to square one.

Oh, they are out there. I saw a 100M (from CA) for sale on eBay a few years ago - non numbers matching and non standard trim.

Several months later the same car showed up for sale by a dealer in Palm Beach, FL. Now the trim had been re-done and it was a numbers matching car. ???!!!! Dealer refused to answer my emails and I finally got him by phone.

Bottom line, IT WAS HIS CAR AND HE COULD DO WHATEVER HE WANTED WITH THE NUMBERS! He also stated that I should never call him again! :-)

If buyers do not contact registries, they have nobody to blame.
