[Healeys] oil pump

swapped a gear pump for a rotary today in a bt7.  could not get oil pressure at all, even though the pump would throw oil a few feet in the air using a drill.  checked make sure pump shaft was turning, primed pump with oil through valve train oil banjo, still no go.  did not do the vaseline or grease routine as i have never had to do it before.  could i be missing anything obvious that would keep it from pumping oil.  will do the vaseline trick and see what happens, but the pump sure did pump good just sitting in a pan of oil.
