< Not sure that such a small percentage of magnesium would impart such
properties>
Google "Elektron" (with a K) and you'll see that its the aluminum that's the
small percentage.

Found the wheels. They are mentioned among a number of competition upgrades
in the article "Six-Slug Slugger" in Sports Car Graphic for August 1961 by
Jerry Titus and John Christy. This goes through a very comprehensive series
of racing engine and chassis upgrades for the Healey, including the special
order part numbers. My memory failed me as to the cost. I said $ 25 but I
think that was for standard 48-spoke wheels from a different parts list.
54-spoke wire wheels are listed in the DHMC "Extra Equipment and
Modifications" list for the 3000 for seven pounds fifteen each. From the
"six-Slug Slugger" article under Roadability:

" Sixty- spoke wire wheels (there are actually only 59) are both a
roadability and reliability option. Those under # 8000 have steel rims and
cost $ 40 each. Magnesium rims are supplied under # 8001 and go for $ 110
per. The latter, naturally, offer an appreciable reduction in unsprung
weight. "

Best regards
Peter
