[Healeys] Do we like brake boosters?

My MkII BT7 has a factory fitted servo. However, the gurus including the
ultimate Mr. "Tricarb" Bolton himself assure me that my car is the exception
that proves the rule. I think they may have been standard on BJ7s; more
likely, they became standard after BJ7 no xyz12345?

Caution: This is a (semi-informed) SWAG.

In general, disk brakes require more braking effort than drums--smaller
friction surface area--so the servo was added when disk brakes became
predominant. I suspect this may not have been evident on the first
disk-braked cars--didn't some cars come with disks and no servo?-- but was
added when it became evident the booster would help.

Also, 'power everything' was popular in the 60s, so it could have been a
marketing thing, too.

I have never understood why the later cars had--and presumably needed--brake
boosters whereas the earlier ones did not. Can anyone enlighten me?
