[Healeys] Distributor and Tachometer Drive

On the Distributor / tachometer drive on my BT7, there is an oil seal, where
the tacho cable joins, which is held in-place by a spit "oil seal retaining
ring", which is a bit of a devil to remove.  Anyhow can I check if it makes
any difference of the internal diameter of this ring has been increased a
little ( I fear that I may have removed some metal on removing the ring)?
Outer diameter is still OK and the ring is still in shape.
