How does it happen that you're in Point Arena? That's already in the middle
of good stuff, but you have to have gotten there from somewhere, which means
you may already have missed something.

In any case, Mendocino is a delightful place to stop over for a day or so, but
at the very least you can have a late breakfast there on your way north. Then,
make the excursion inland to Avenue of the Giants, go out to Ferndale
(beautiful Victorian town used in filming that epidemic picture), and from
there just hug the coast on Highway 101 all the blessed way to Port Angeles,
Washington, and enjoy all the facets of the Pacific coast, driving, stopping,
and staying wherever the mood strikes you.

for things to see and places to stay.I did a motorcycle tour of the area 2
years ago. Hug the coast, Highway 1, until you get to Leggett. Then head
north to find the Avenue of the Giants, a 31 mile side trip through the
tallest living things on the planet. Park in one of the rest stops, and take
an hour to wonder among the trees. I was in awe. We went after Labor Day (1st
Monday in Sept, the U.S.'s unofficial end of summer) and had the place to
ourselves.http://avenueofthegiants.net/We stayed at the Eureka Inn in Eureka
CA for a base camp. A century old inn with the lots of charm. It's not the
Ritz (let's call it "quaint"), but I'd go
back.http://www.eurekainn.com/Pages/default.aspx From Eureka, you could detour
east to Lassen Volcanic National Park. It last erupted 100 years ago. Are you
feeling lucky?http://www.nps.gov/lavo/index.htm--Kent McLean'56 100
