Which of course is total bull from Hawthorn as he had just overtaken on the
left, pulled across to the right and stamped on the binders!! 

He had to say something to distance himself from the disaster.

This is correct. Hawthorn said that he did not think the Healey was going so
fast and that is why he crossed the track unexpectectly
