You may have a car that had a 0.75 3/4" bore master cylinder that was later
changed to a 0.625 5/8ths or the wheel cylinders may be the incorrect bore.
 If the shoes adjust up tight within  3-4 "clicks", I suspect this may be
your problem. If the drums have been turned many times it might be the "too
much travel" to work in one pump.....

Yes, but, always in the same place 1 1/2 pushes and it's a rock.  No fade if
I
hold it there.  I have bled the brakes twice, carefully, and no air other
than
during the initial bleed.  And, the brakes work, poorly.  If I continue to
pump them, they don't get better.  I'm thinkin' that the shoes have to
travel
too far to get to the drums, further than one pump of fluid can get them to
move, but I can't get them any closer without them binding.  I even took it
around the block a few times and used the brakes to center up the shoes to
the
drums, but I was only able to adjust them slightly closer then.
