I also found that it makes a big difference if heated carefully with a hair
blow dryer during the curing process (about the first 5 to 10 minutes) .
With a bit of practice it can be controlled very well.

Wow! Nine helpful replies in less than an hour.  Thank you folks, especially
those who suggested that temperature  was an important variable.  I will
acquire a couple of cans that  purport to offer crackle or krinkle finish
and do some testing.
