On second thought, the bolts might be 3/8" ... use the appropriate torque value (my Craftsmen torque wrenches came with a chart for bolt size/composition).

Disclaimer: Opinions follow.
- where to get a clutch kit,
Moss or any of the other 'usual suspects,' unless you want something 'exotic' (e.g. Kevlar). AFAIK, all new pressure plates are asbestos-free, and I believe the earliest a-f parts had some problems, but I haven't heard of any lately. If you can score a set of 'Q-H' (Quentin-Hartnell or similar you'll likely be OK.
- where do I find the proper torque settings for the pressure plate to fly
wheel, and
If it's not listed in an 'official' source--i.e. the shop manual--use the 'default' for the bolt size, which I believe is a 7/16" and torque is around 70ft-lbs give-or-take based on bolt composition.
- replacing the pressure plate to fly wheel bolts is a no-brainer, right?
Not necessarily. The bolts are not torque-to-yield and I've reused them--along with head studs, etc.--with no problems. OTOH, if they're not too expensive and you're worried about it then why not replace?

All,
Thanks for the many responses on who to rebuild the tranny. Actually it was
the same response many times.
I dropped it off at Quantum Machanics Monday. What a great guy John is! He
spent half an hour with me. He popped the top off tranny and the solenoid
bracket off the OD and showed me what happed. No, I didn't break it, age
did. The clutch material gets old, starts flaking and attacks the pump
piston, which is aluminuim.
Next Question: Clutch.
Any advice on
- where to get a clutch kit,
- where do I find the proper torque settings for the pressure plate to fly
wheel, and
- replacing the pressure plate to fly wheel bolts is a no-brainer, right?
Thank
GM
