Dismantle, clean thoroughly and inspect the bore. If the bore is perfectly smooth, rebuild with an overhaul kit (seal, cap etc.). If not you can try honing and rebuilding, however most will prefer to chuck it and fit a new one. Confession: In the late '60s, I bought my first Healey, a 100/6. It needed restoration by a 16 year old. I did all the body work (fiberglass and bondo) and painted it myself. For a compressor I used a little airless compressor about the size of a football and a $10 sprayer. The paint? Sears enamel. I mixed their off- the-shelf black with some off-the-shelf green until I got a hue I liked. It made for a nice 10-footer. I did the interior with black carpeting, black trim, and white! Naugahyde seats. I was stylin'. :) -- Kent McLean '56 100 BN2 _______________________________________________ Suggested annual donation $12.75 Archive: http://www.team.net/archive Forums: http://www.team.net/forums Healeys at autox.team.net http://autox.team.net/mailman/listinfo/healeys Unsubscribe/Manage: http://autox.team.net/mailman/options/healeys/caddi5 at comcast.net From vintage_roadster_restoration at hotmail.com Wed Feb 29 11:09:26 2012 From: vintage_roadster_restoration at hotmail.com (Jean Caron) Date: Wed, 29 Feb 2012 18:09:26 +0000 Subject: [Healeys] BN1 door check assemblies wanted In-Reply-To: <4F4E07F6.3000008@iinet.net.au> References: <4F4E07F6.3000008@iinet.net.au> Message-ID: Perhaps check with Restoration Specialties and Supply in Pennsylvania, they have some check strap assemblies, three types actually that are very much like that of a BN1, cannot recall which one is correct, check their online catalog page 153 these are for Fords 1938 to 1948, they have three different length, What they have is the arm with the rubber at the end, not sure if they have the other part with the springs. These were used on all BN1's up to end of August '54, to Body 5000. This is also when they went from the 160000 chassis numbers to the 210000 series unified numbers.
