I suggest getting a Heritage certificate for your car which will show the
full and correct VIN and engine number (hopefully! sometimes they make
mistakes). You could also ask them if they would write you a letter
confirming that all 3000s of your type had a VIN beginning with HBT7L. I
assume your car doesn't have overdrive, because if it does the number
should be HBT7L-O- 15561.
