I did not forget wear, but assumed that there was no discernible play in 
the bearings as this was not mentioned. Anyway, if the distributor has 
been serviced (lubricated on the felt pad under the rotor) regularly, it 
is not very likely that there is any noticeable wear so the replacement 
of bearings is hardly ever necessary. Again, if it ain't broke don't fix 
it. I have never encountered wear on the spindles of Lucas distributors 
in my Triumph, Land Rover or Jensen Healey's in spite of sometimes very 
high mileages, I have seen stuck weights though. Even amongst the many 
spare Lucas distributors I have in my "boxes of old junk" I have only 
seen one with play in the bearings.
There are a number of Lucas distributor specialists in the UK that can 
supply the wanted springs, Google or UK motor magazines will help you to 
find a few.
Regraphing by changing springs is not that simple. You need a dyno or 
many road tests. Plus fiddling with the springs and the risk of losing 
or stretching them. For normal use stick to factory original.
