Kees forgot to mention the single biggest issue in any Lucas distributor is
wear.
By all means rebuild it yourself.
Just make sure you replace bearings - and regraph to suit your engine.
Check the archives.
Best
Chris.

good with delicate and small things, as I assemble surface-mount electronics
as part of my Amateur Radio hobby. But I was also considering how old and
possibly worn the disty is in my BT7, which is why I'm researching a new
distributor, or perhaps having mine rebuilt.

see that Moss sells an assortment of springs, but where are the specialist
shops you refer to? I don't prefer doing this job more than once, and don't
wish to experiment with an array of springs.

Lucas Look-alike distributor with several advance curves to choose from. They
are not overly expensive.

lubricate the weights, spindles and springs. Replacement springs can be had at
most specialists. Make pictures, drawings, labels to note what goes where when
assembling if you are not confident with these jobs. There is no magic
involved, just avoid being ham fisted.
