Thanks for the information. I won't try making a gasket. It sounds like the
key is going to be assuring that the mating surfaces are flat & that a good
bead (I don't mean thick) of high quality sealent is applied to the joints. I
will live with the smal leak for now.

I strongly believe no gaskets are possible around the brake ring as this would
mess up the end-float of the sungear which is adjusted with a steel washer.
To find the right dimension for this washer end-float needs to be measured
with the case assembled with an oversize washer/spacer and/or via a dial
indicator.  Compressible gaskets would introduce a variable here.  The brake
ring is an interference fit so I just used a bit Hylomar AF on the brake ring
and pretty sure most of it just squeezed out again.  The only thing we have to
create a tight seal here is the 6 studs.  My car is at the painter and I have
not checked this area recently and although this is not a high-pressure area I
somewhat expect this area to be a hard to seal properly.
