Should be on a narrow, oval plate semi-permanently riveted (nailed) to the block, just above the distributor. 

Often missing, I would think.

On my BN2, the body number is stamped on a plate on the RH firewall, but where 
is the engine number? I seem to remember someone once saying there was none. 
Doesn't seem right. Can someone help? Tx.
