[Healeys] BJ8 Top Question

Working on the top and have a question about how the top attaches to the
rear most bow.

There are 2 pieces of fabric attached to the top that are supposed to
form a "loop" around this bow.

On the top I took off, this fabric was glued to the bow.

If it doesn't glue, how tight should the loop be, and how do you hold it
in place while you struggle with the metal "u" that goes over the top of
it and screws to the bow?
