I may have been very lucky but I never had an SU fuel pump failing. I 
just cleaned the points with a piece of carton at the yearly oil change 
and often forgot to do so. Even now after standing in the garage 
gathering dust since 1985 after about 160.000mls it will still work when 
power is applied. Also in my present toy which I have now for over 3 
years and 15.000 mls no problems. Both pumps have never been rebuilt.
