[Healeys] Leather stap bonnet aging?

My guess is it will get stiff and brittle and be even more inclined to damage your paint. 

Just a guess.

I thought of hanging out the leather M strap for the bonnet for the winter 
to see it age. Since it will rain and snow, I would imagine it will look 
like an old belt, not like brand new one. 

Anyone has any thoughts on this?
