[Healeys] water pump

It's my understanding that back in the day the water pump seal had to be 
bedded in before installing the pump on the car.  The pulley/shaft was 
spun (say using the wire wheel on a bench grinder) dry for some period 
of time.  Just wondered if that should still be done and, if so, how.
