[Healeys] BN2 paint question

It is very important to know that you must remove all the old lacquer paint
before doing any body work or paint.  If you don't the paint job will look
good for maybe three months or so until the paint starts to sink or lift.

Am I correct in assuming that the original paint on a 1956 BN 2 was acrylic
lacquer.
