The Merlin was built under license by Packard for P-51s. Packard reduced the original 400+ variations of nuts, bolts and screws to a few dozen standard sizes.

Wow! Is that what present day owners have to do? It would make owning a 
Spitfire or Mustang (same engine) VERY expensive. As if just buying one was 
not expensive enough!
