[Healeys] King Pin with needle bearings

I just wonder, has there ever been a problem with the Healey's 
concerning "shimmying", uncontrolable oscilation of the front wheels, 
using the needle bearings because of the reduced friction (thus damping) 
in the system?
Several other cars make use of intentional friction in the kingpins 
instead of fitting an external steering damper, e.g. Landrover.
