Andy,

Answer to #2 question.....The blanking plate is trimmed with the same vinyl 
as the console and sits framed by a rectangular chrome surround. The 3000 
emblem is fitted to the face of the vinyl and a push nut holds it against a 
bridging bracket on the back side.
