Yes, the sleeved thermostats do make a difference on the 6 cyl cars.  You
should also consider having your radiator rodded (should be cheap to do in
MI), some owners install four row radiators, but it's not too hot in MI
except for a month or two, so maybe you don't need to do this.

Use distilled water.  It will significantly reduce any scaling.
