This can happen on older tires that are not in frequent use, although 
5yrs is pretty quick. Change tires every 6-10 yrs for safety, even if 
the thread is unworn (spare tire!!). Perhaps the brand Kumho plays a 
role. Another factor may have been that the tire was underinflated perhaps?
