I had the same problem and made shims out of 1" wide aluminum strips purchased from a home center. Forget whether the aluminum was 1/16 or 1/8 thick.

I shimmed the 'u' part of the clamp to make it snug against the spring. The 1" is wide enough to bend the edges over to keep the shim from slipping off the clamp.

This was on brand-new Daur springs.
