[Healeys] o/d problem(again)

been driving a friends bj8 and have noticed that when first engaging o/d when oil in o/d is still cold, the o/d will hesitate, then engage pretty hard.  if accelerating, the rpm will increase before engagement.  when oil is warm, not noticeable and engagement is smooth if not accellerating(oil hot or cold).   i know it has to come out and go on the workbench for a look-see.  am i looking at a rebuild, or is this somethiing that has happened to a lister and they found an easy fix.  i have driven his car before and never noticed it,  but this is the first time i have driven it on cool mornings, and he seldom uses the o/d.   hjim
