The thing is that you cannot tell for sure, it all depends on 
manufacturer, where the tire was made, sold or used (more ozone in 
colder climates), storage conditions, use, exposure etc. It is 
impossible to check if a tire is OK without destroying it.
I am sure that in more than 95% nothing serious will happen but: Better 
to be safe than sorry and get new tires about every 8 years.
