I had no trouble with my push rods, but experienced the same pitting 
on the lifters, after relatively few miles.
I've since been told that, even though my cam was declared OK, I 
should have started with two new surfaces, ie. ground cam and new 
lifters, for best results. That is what I plan to do when I get my 
car back on the road. However I still get conflicting advice about 
whether to use new lifters, or re-harden the originals.
