I MUCH prefer the non-brush end of a fine paint brush.

Of course, the much easier way is to purchase a "Whistler".  Screws into the spark plug hole(s) and tells one VERY plainly where TDC is<VBG>!!
Mine cost me about $10 years ago and I think Eastwood has one for around $20.
