Fellow Healeyoids,

I have the opportunity to purchase my buddy Karl's 1960 Mk I Healey. He has
lost interest and is overwhelmed with his new job and wants to spend more
time with his kids. I helped him find the car in 2001 when we hauled it out
of southern Iowa for $500. The car was sitting for years on it's frame
rails in an apple orchard. The acid from the apples assisted in eating away
at the frame. I guess that an apple a day won't keep the Healey doctor
away.

Anyway, he wants $10,000 for it. It is in the latter stages of restoration.

It has new frame rails with 1/8" wall steel. All of the rust has been
removed and new panels, (floors, hinge pillars, sills, rockers, footboxes,
etc) installed where needed. Rebuilt engine, gearbox and overdrive.
Rebuilt brakes and suspension. New tires, rebuild gauges.

It needs the following:

Complete interior

New hoses

Wiring harness

Exhaust system

New wheels

All chrome news to be redone

Aluminum trim needs refinishing

Side curtains redone

Panels need aligning and bodywork need to be done.

So, basically, except for the body panel alignment, which I know from
experience can be a SUPER bitch to accomplish, the car has had most of the
hard work done. The frame and super structure are painted Healey blue. The
wife will surely not be happy with another car. But I will take her on a
vacation somewhere nice and let her buy some clothes. So, maybe I should
add another $1000 or 2000 to the price of the car.

I think that with another $10,000-12,000 I can have the car finished and a
nice driver. I can do it for even less if I do all of the bodywork by
myself. What do you guys think? Is it a good deal? Fair deal? Let me
know what you think. I really want a roadster to round out my Healey
collection. Thanks!
