Yes, it can, Alex.  I have such an arrangement on my BJ8:  a negative ground
SU in series with an Autozone electric pump and a Single-Pole Double-Throw
switch under the driver's side of the dash.  I can select either pump, or
neither. I drove out to San Diego on one pump, and back on the other. It
also works great as an anti-theft system. I have run out of gas several
times in hotel parking lots because I forgot I turned off the pumps for the
night.  With both pumps off, the engine will start but only run for about a
minute or so.

The subject of auxiliary fuel pumps has been covered a great deal, I know, 
but I have a question.

Can a pump such as the NAPA or Facet be installed in-line with the existing 
SU pump on my BT7, but not be powered until needed. That is, will it operate

similarly to the SU pump, in a pump-through or pull-through mode---without 
power?
