 Another factor that can cause spongy brakes is if the shoes are not aligned
 perfectly perpendicular to the brake back plate. This causes only a portion
 of the shoe width to be contacting the width of the drum. The steady posts
 and their locking nuts allow adjustment of this. Also the shoe lining
 surface needs to be arced to perfectly match the arc of the drum surface.
 This will allow for quicker bedding in of the shoe/drum surfaces. Finally,
 accurate rear shoe adjustment can only be accomplished with the hand brake
 clevis temporarily undone.
