[Healeys] Smog Tests and Global Warming

Yes, many World leaders are ready to change the way we live and depress the
World economy to "solve" a problem that cannot be proven to have a human
solution, but I recall the last time a "scientist," paul ehrlich convinced
the World we would all starve soon.  Ehrlich wrote an article that appeared
in New Scientist in December 1967. In that article, Ehrlich predicted that
the world would experience famines sometime between 1970 and 1985 due to
population growth outstripping resources. Ehrlich wrote that "the battle to
feed all of humanity is over ... In the 1970s and 1980s hundreds of millions
of people will starve to death in spite of any crash programs embarked upon
now."

Excuse me, but I tend to be somewhat skeptical of mass movements that want
us all to stop building, driving, manufacturing and growing.  Since the
1960s we have done a huge amount to clean the air with more efficient
engines and unleaded fuels, but it will never be enough for the "scientists"
who want to change the World.
