[Healeys] overhauling od rotary throttle switch

Any words of wisdom on stripping and cleaning the od throttle switch, as 
they are expensive but look very rough in a newly painted engine bay. What 
is the brown? material on the front and how best to clean? Is it just remove 
the arm and push the pin thru, I plan on trying to replate the body with a 
home kit.
