[Healeys] emergency Fuel Pump

Gary, this info is a bit dated, but back in 1999 Rudi Markl posted to the
list several NAPA part numbers for different fuel pumps:

610-1050   4.0 - 6.0 psi; negative ground ($33)
610-1051  2.5 - 4.5 psi; negative ground
610-1052  1.5 - 3.5 psi; negative ground ($42)
610-1069  1.5 - 3.5 psi; negative or positive ground ($105)
610-1070  1.5 - 3.5 psi; negative or positive ground ($105)

There was no explanation for the difference between the last two.

I use a backup pump from Autozone in my BJ8, P/N E8016S, which is negative
ground and sells for about 40 bucks.  It comes with a filter in the inlet of
the pump.  I recently checked with Autozone and they still have this pump.

I used a plastic in-line filter from Wal-Mart.  Since I had already cut the
fuel line between the pump and carbs (under the rear seat) to install a
filter there some time prior, it was a simple matter to plumb in some
additional fuel hose to install the backup pump.  Photos of my pump and fuel
filter installation are available, as well as plumbing and electrical
schematics.

Went to my local Napa store today to buy a fuel pump I could install for
emergencies. I clearly asked for an inline fuel pump rated for 1.5 to 3 psi.
The
guy reached behind him to the peg board, pulled a fuel pump off, and plopped
it
in front of me. I got involved in looking at the fittings, figuring out I
was
going to need some fuel line hose and clamps and would have to cut into the
line to fit it, if I ever needed it, since all the pump came with were
screw-in
nipple fittings, but then just before I gave him my charge card, looked at
the specs...10 psi.
So I handed it back to him and explained again, I needed one that was rated
1.5 to 3 psi.
He told me that the one he showed me was the only one that Napa sells, and
as
the package says, it is universal and will work on any car.

Help, guys...
Do any of you carefully-organized people have a part number for the Napa
pump
that will work on the Healey?

In addition, I asked about fuel filters. The only one they have, so the
counter guy said, was a glass one, and I've been told that those aren't a
good
idea under the chassis, since they can easily be broken. Any advice, and/or
part
number there?

And am I right that to install one of these filters, I'm going to have to
cut
the line and then clamp on rubber fuel line? Am I right that it should be
installed between the tank and the pump? (Of course, if I do fit it there, I
should be able to substitute the fuel pump in case of emergencies.

Any and all advice appreciated.
