[Healeys] Young Drivers (was " List Opinion Requested")

New Jersey just passed a law making it illegal to use a cell fone for text
messages while driving. Seems to be a law that is not necessary because of
common sense, but I have seen too many people obviously texting while
driving.

Is there no end to stupidity which forces the government to step in to
completely control our lives/

G'day

As of today here in New South Wales before a learner driver can go for
their driver's licence they have to have 120 hours of driver training
(up from 50). Then once they get their licence there is a complete ban
on using a mobile phone in any way (it's illegal to talk on a mobile
handset here while driving but okay if it's handsfree) and if under 25
only one passenger between 11pm and 5am.

There is also a new law banning smoking in pubs and clubs.

Having lost friends and family to driving stupidity and lung cancer I
welcome the new laws but think they don't go far enough.
