Finally got around to pulling the engine and tearing it down. Found a broken timing chain along with pieces of the tensioner and that the retaining pin for the tensioner was broken off of the front plate. The chain had many laps on it - I probably should just change it with each refresh, rather than reusing it.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">Any suggestions on better chains and tensioners? I see that Moss sells an "uprated" chain for about $70 compared to under $15 for other chains. It's worth the $70 if it lasts, but is it really better?</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">Also need an adjustable cam gear. I had been using one from Cambridge Motorsports that I had for many years. Any suggestions?</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">I have found broken tensioners in previous tear downs, but they were caught before causing anything worse. Does anyone sell or fabricate and uprated tensioner similar to what MGs use? I see that Racetorations makes one for TR5/6s. </div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">Joe(B)</div></div></body></html>
