For me the competion at Mosport is not the other entries, it’s the track. It’s the most intimidating track I’ve ever raced on, and I suspect I’ve covered more tracks than 99.9% of amateur racers. I wouldn’t spend ten seconds worrying about what group I’m in. I’d be too busy trying to grow a third nut so I could drive the track close to my limit without sitting too long in the car after each session trying to decide if I’m still having fun. Off-camber, blind, downhill turns that you can’t touch your brakes or steer to correct for even a minor error if you’re actually at competitive speed. I loved it, hated it, had the shit scared out of me, and never did a single corner the same way twice. I have no recollection of where I finished in the group I raced with—probably somewhere in the back of the pack.
